GICLÉE printing

painting process

1. sketch
I always start with a journal or sketchbook, where I let my ideas, musings, and daydreams flow. I love adding photographs and little colour collages, capturing the inspiration around me.

2. play with colours
Next, I experiment with colour, blending artist oil paints with digital techniques. I often pull hues straight from my summer camera roll, playing with palettes that inspire sun-soaked memories.

3. prime + prepare
To start the painting process, I prepare and prime either cotton canvas or wood with a base of gesso, oils, and a light lick of paint. Once the canvas is ready, I let it dry for a few days before continuing.

4. final sketch
After leaving to dry for a few days, I lightly sketch a pencil drawing onto the primed canvas.

5. blending
Ready to paint, I mix up my chosen colours; blending artist grade oil paints with required mediums to achieve a delicious buttery consistency, and a thin gloss glaze.

6. paint
With my carefully mixed palette of richly pigmented oil paints, I begin to paint. I whimsically dash creamy brushstrokes across the canvas, each stroke capturing the warmth and feeling of a balmy summer's day.
